As I emerge from my weeklong blogging-break it's time to give belated thanks to everybody who has been working so hard on Global Voices over the past several months. Our Deutche Welle Best of Blogs award is testament to the hard work of bloggers all around the world - people whose passion to communicate cannot be silenced.
The award is gaining GVO even more attention. Last night Joi Ito and I both joined a taping of CNN's "Situation Room" show via webcam to talk about the international blogging phenom. Joi blogged about it here. It will air twice this weekend in the U.S.: 7pm EST Saturday and 1pm EST Sunday.
One of the best things about our conversation, as Joi Ito points out, is that it highlighted just how bloggers and journalists have gone beyond the old and tired "blogging vs. journalism" discussion and are really beginning to create new synergies. I hope the media will evolve in positive new directions as professional journalists learn to respect and collaborate with the world's online communities of conversation - communities full of people who are passionate about connecting with their fellow human beings and making a difference.
Your blog is on CNN's On the Story right now. Oh heck. You know that - you're on webcam. Niiiice!
